Where it's used
- Automotive interior parts: consoles, bezels and covers
- Housings for laptops, chargers and mobile devices
- Appliance and telecom equipment housings
- Parts that receive metallic plating
Watch out for
- Limited chemical resistance, similar to PC
- Properties vary with the PC-to-ABS ratio, so choosing the right grade matters
- Overheating during processing can cause delamination and surface defects
- Outdoor use requires a UV-stabilized grade
Processing tips
- Dry for 2–4 hours at about 100–110°C
- Typical melt temperature ~240–280°C, mold ~60–90°C
- Flows better than PC, suitable for thin walls
- Avoid long residence times in the barrel to protect the material
Alternatives and when to choose them
- PC – When clarity or higher heat resistance is required
- ABS – When cost drives the decision and requirements are moderate
- PC/PBT – When chemical resistance matters, for example on automotive exterior parts
